Bandcamp Friday Finds 202505
Just got me some good finds from the recent Bandcamp Friday!!
So let’s rummage through the shopping bag, shall we?
I got almost everything from UK spoken word faves Dry Cleaning. I didn’t get their latest EP this time as I don’t tend to do lots of remix albums. The jam session from the band is just awesome and the lyrical deadpan delivery with such a smooth voice; I just love it.
Continuing on a (semi-)spoken word theme is Gustaf out of NYC (baybee!!). I only got their two albums, but they are really bouncy and good. They do have a vocal changer that occasionally comes in that …well… let’s just say it is growing on me, but I’d be okay if it got left behind if they make a third album. Still an excellent get!
Next up, I decided to go Tropical Fuck Storm (TFS) adjacent (while waiting for their next album to drop in June) and looked at where the guitarist, Erica Dunn came from by grabbing up two albums worth of MOD CON. Honestly, I will support pretty much any project TFS members are a part of. They all are such great artists and surely they gather around them like minded folks.
I plan on seeing MJ Lenderman very soon and realized I had only been streaming them (along with their other project with Karly Hartzman et al - Wednesday). The lyricism and feelings are there and just can’t wait to see it live. Here, have a listen from an NPR Tiny Desk!
Finally, I grabbed up some local Indiana folks’ bits that are worth supporting! Even if they are no longer producing, Whelmed is a good little pop punk project that put out a couple li’ll EPs. mourning star is bringing in the next generation of Shoegazeiness that I’m happy to hear. Our local radio station had them on so you know they are cranking fresh. The kids are alright.
Also reminds me to remind you dear reader, to support your local community radio! Be it an independent thing or a local NPR or PBS television station. They need it. You need it. Do it!
