Thinking about Housing
As I am getting ready to move to a smaller place; a one bedroom split house, I find myself walking around my town and seeing (to me) an increase in houses for sale and my first thought is that I can’t afford those.
I live in a “college town” and have seen over the years more and more of the housing …actual houses… getting bought up by “property management” groups and rented out for the students who come from higher income areas of the country. It leaves less and less for folks…that may even have a job in the college in the town…to buy or live in without high rents.
It is clear we have a housing shortage in the US (ooooooh, believe me I know there is soooo much else going on to boot!! That will be talked about, I’m sure), but there was a time when it was actually the US government built houses for folks:
If we can get our asses off our seats and do some serious civic engagement, there is a chance…
This is really just a mini rant, but would welcome any conversation about it.
