Writing Is A Muscle

…it really is! I have been thinking about a more ambitious topic quite a bit. However, just getting it down in writing has proven difficult. The words just aren’t coming, or I get distracted, or new information comes in that threatens to reset me.

I realized that I haven’t really really written anything more than a brief email to people for work for years (if at all??). I was a Philosophy undergrad and that was likely the most writing I ever did. So (does math)…more years than I’d like to admit. I recall it was difficult even then. I was a very shy person when younger and had my own “social awakening” in those undergrad years. So while my writing could/should have been better, connecting with people was what I wanted more. I’m older, (hopefully) wiser, and have better time management skills.

I think this really reinforces how this was a good move for me and my mental health. Not only am I attempting to give more thought into what I write, but I’m easily able to write more than a “tweet’s worth” of stuff. It feels more human and I do like it.

It is a good muscle to exercise, but now how to get other people excercising their reading muscles and thoughtful comment muscles…

What are your thoughts about getting your writing muscle in shape. Any suggestions? Feel free to reach out!
