YouTube, Blogging, and Surveillance Capitalism
I have been mulling over a comment someone sent me over Matrix (that’s living by the ol’ Blogosphere mindset!!) about embedding YouTube videos. Since “some people hate being tracked. Maybe you should share a link to the video instead.”
It really got me thinking about how to get certain things out there into the world these days, but without folks being tracked. Additonally, I feel strongly about adding onto that mindset how to keep funding the corporations, but making sure small folks do get credit and support. I do really appreciate a person reaching out to not only create a conversation, but also keep me returning to and thinking about how I want this space to me; commenting as well as just posting.
I’d definitely be open to more suggestions and input, but I think for now I will plan on taking my own screenshot of a YT video…sort of making my own preview along with as stripped down a link as possible.
Additionally, I am going to try and find ways to point people at as much non-YT content. Meaning that I have to put more effort into places like PeerTube, Nebula, or means.tv.
